Database Support and Services Renegotiation
This state government had a long-time relationship with the vendor and recently had made a significant investment with them by standardizing their database solution. The State needed to contain the escalating support and service costs it was incurring annually.
The State’s licensing and maintenance agreements were reviewed to determine if it was given the optimal licensing schema for its infrastructure design and software usage patterns. In addition, an analysis of historical transactions was performed which revealed that the State had regularly overpaid for acquisitions, maintenance, migrations, conversions, and upgrades based on market competitive rates at the time of the transactions.
The State’s proposed go-forward agreements showed that it had been overcharged between $13,000,000 and $30,000,000 depending on its deployment methodology. The information from these several assessments was used by the State to develop new plans for its database software and services that would utilize more competitive solutions.
